Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory has recorded an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude at 10.17 a.m. with the epicenter situated in the Aegean Sea.
The earthquake was felt in Izmir, Aydın and in the surrounding villages, in the coastal region from Izmir to Çanakkale.
Cahit Kıraç, Governor of Izmir reported that there were no loss of life and property in the city or the surroundings. Kıraç also told that the earthquake was barely felt in the center of the city.
11 aftershocks ranging from 2.4 to 4.2 in magnitude were recorded by the Observatory during the day.
