AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Elitaş called the supporter MPs of the Violence in Sports Law that had recently bounced back from President Abdullah Gül to stand by their signatures
Mustafa Elitaş, the ruling AK Party's Group Deputy Chairman called the signatories of the Violence in Sports Law that oversaw a sentence reduction for match-fixing to stand by their decision, in light of the recent veto by the President of Republic of Turkey.
President Abdullah Gül has sent the Violence in Sports law draft back to the Parliament for a review, citing what he perceived as a disproportion between the crime and the penalty and therefore judged to be a lack of deterrence from the alleged crime. President Gül explained that it would be inappropriate to call this a Match-fixing Law, as the law draft encompassed the issues of violence and financial crimes as well as match-fixing in each branch of sports.
Elitaş stated respecting President Gül's grounds for veto eventhough "the will of Assembly will become prominent", the Group Deputy Chairman told.
